In this training course Chad takes you inside of Adobe Illustrator CS4. If you plan to follow along in this training course, you will want to make sure you have Adobe Illustrator CS4
Illustrator CS4 introduces the new Blob Brush tool to users. Instead of a regular brush stroke, painting with the blog brush gives you a filled, compound path. Any new shape painted with the same color and stroke will automatically merge with existing shapes with the same settings. The new tool will pick up style attributes from other objects and has numerous other options to explore and play around with.
The images in vector art are basic and simplistic, consisting of lines, points, polygons, and curves. Vector art is akin to the type of imaging typically used to create cartoon images found in comic strips. In addition, vector art is typically used to create business logos and signs, making them easy for the brain to remember.
In addition to taking up less computer space to save and to process, there are some other advantages associated with using vector art rather than bitmap art. One of these advantages is the fact that vector art images can be easily enlarged without distorting the image. Bitmap art, on the other hand, becomes jagged when enlarged, as the squares used to create the image are enlarged.

The Blob Brush
In this training, Chad takes you and shows you how he uses the blob brush in Illustrator CS4
Tracing the Sketch
Chad shows you how he traces his sketch using several layers in the process. Chad says using layers helps the artist focus on parts of the illustration, while styling each line. This in return gives the overall cartoon illustration a little more character and style.
If you have never used the blob brush before this is a MUST SEE! Using the blob brush will save you lots of time and it's also fun to use!
"Chad, I never would have thought about using layers while tracing and coloring my cartoon characters! You make it easy and so much fun"
- Jeff Becker
As seen in some of Chad's other training videos, using layers is also using in creating vector cartoons.
Chad says, using layers helps speed up your work flow and keeps mistakes easy to fix. Check it out for yourself and see how easy it is!
